Supporting rangatahi leaving care to build strong, independent futures

He aha te kaupapa? | What we’re about

Leaving care or a youth justice residence can be a big step. But you don’t have to do it alone. Our Transition to Adulthood team walks alongside rangatahi aged 15 to 25 years who are moving from Oranga Tamariki care or custody into adult life. We help you build confidence, plan your next steps, and find the support you need for study, work, housing, or wellbeing, whatever your goals are, we’re here to awhi (support) you to achieve them.

Ko wai mātou | Who we are

We’re part of Highbury Whānau Centre in Palmerston North, supported by Rangitāne o Manawatū and the Ministry of Social Development.
Our team of Transition Workers are mentors who care, they’ll check in with you, keep showing up, and help you connect with people and services that can make life a bit easier.

He aha tā mātou mahi | How we support you

We can help you:

• Find safe and stable housing
• Apply for study, training, or employment
• Learn budgeting, life and work skills
• Access counselling, health or legal support
• Stay connected to your whānau, culture and community
• Build independence at your own pace

You decide how much support you need and sometimes that’s a quick check-in, other times its ongoing mahi together. However it looks, we’re here when you need us.
