At START, we walk alongside taiohi (young people) to help you build confidence, gain skills, and find your path. Whether that’s through school, training, or work.

We know life can be full of changes and challenges. Our Youth Coaches are here to awhi (support) you, listen to what matters to you, and help you make a plan that works for your future.

Ko wai mātou | Who we support

We work with taiohi who are:

• 16–17 years old and not in school, training, or work (NEET)
• 16–19 year-old young parents receiving a Young Parent Payment (YPP)
• 16–17 year-olds living independently and receiving a Youth Payment (YP)

He aha tā mātou mahi | What we do

Our Youth Coaches help you:

• Navigate the benefit system - to check if the right support mechanisms are in place for you, as well as understanding of the obligations required in receipt of the government support
• Set goals and take steps toward education, training, or employment
• Find practical solutions for housing, childcare, or budgeting
• Build confidence, life skills, and independence
• Connect with whānau, community, and support networks
• Celebrate your strengths and achievements along the way

We work one-on-one and through fun group activities, workshops, and trips. You’ll always have someone in your corner who’s here to help, not judge.

Monday to Friday: 9.30am – 4.30pm
